Interview

1.When did you start acting?

I’ve been acting since I was a child, but also played soccer competitively, which quickly monopolized my weekly schedule. Suddenly there was no time for acting anymore.  As I grew older, I longed to nurture the artist in me, and really missed acting.  Finally, I took ownership for my artistic ambitions and put myself back where I needed to be to feel creatively fulfilled.

2.What has been the best advice you have gotten?

Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you’re right.  People underestimate how powerful it is to belief in yourself.  It’s all about making the decision and going for it!

3.Describe yourself in 3 words?

Goofy.  Idealistic.  Curious.  Passionate. That’s four.  Oh and I’m a rule breaker.

4.Who is your biggest supporter?

My mom is always there for me, but I also aim to surround myself with positive people who encourage and support my endeavors, however crazy they may be.  I am lucky to be surrounded by a solid group of friends and family, all of whom I am very grateful for.

5.What kind of music you like?

I feel that music is about matching your environment and mood to your playlist – so anything goes depending on how you’re feeling.  At the top of my list would definitely be soul, R&B, old school hip-hop, blues, reggae, funk, rock, and of course, latin music – especially bossa nova.

6.What do you do in your free time?

Oh man.. The past little while I’ve been obsessed with biohacking because it is based on the idea that we are responsible for creating our best lives by exploring what works for our bodies and what doesn’t.  For a curious person like me, it’s an endless source of discovery and experimentation.  I have so many fun gadgets that show up at my door, I feel like it’s Christmas morning when the mailman comes.  I should leave him some milk and cookies.. Right now I am meditating a lot with some freaky neuroscience gadgets, and I also LOVE cooking for my friends at home.  I also recently took up boxing, which is super addictive.. Mostly I just love trying new things and hanging with my friends.  My schedule is always full of activity.

7.What is the best and worst part about being an actress?

Managing my schedule is a never-ending headache. I wish I could make a plan, and trust that it won’t change ten million times, but that’s not the nature of my industry.  It’s a great lesson in learning how to be flexible and go with the flow, because everything can change at the drop of a dime. The best part about being an actress is the opportunity to build characters with different opinions and points of view than your own.  I also love being at work and living in the freedom of play and exploration with a group of crazy artists.

9.Who is your inspiration when it comes to acting and who do you want to work with one day?

There are so many to look up to, but I definitely look up to all the women who still have thriving careers after decades of work, like Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave, Maggie Smith, Meryl Streep, to name of few.  This industry can infect one’s mind with the worry that your career ends after your first wrinkle, so I admire them for enduring decades of that crap.  There are so many actors I would love to work with, but the first who come to mind include: Amy Adams, Kate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Michael Shannon, Gary Oldman, and maybe share some laughs with Chris Pratt.

10.Do you see yourself directing or producing in the future?

Absolutely!  There is finally so much opportunity and encouragement for women to enter into producer and directorial roles, it’s amazing!  There is an industry support that didn’t exist before, and I definitely plan to take full advantage of any opportunity that comes my way!  It would be so much fun to be behind my own project, so fingers crossed it happens soon!  Wish me luck!
