What originally inspired you to take on an acting career?
It was a lot of things. My love for acting was probably the biggest driving force. I found it thankfully just before I finished high school, my junior year and didn't look back since. A very close actor friend of mine, John, helped me to believe in myself and where I should start taking classes and what workshops to do. My parents also really believed in my dream and that was huge, they were actually convincing me to take advantage of the momentum and not go to college just yet
What are the advantages and disadvantages of being an actor?
I'd say a big plus is the comfort its brought to my life. And it's not that my life has done a 180 and I'm chilling on yachts on the weekends but I don't have to worry so much financially and other ways too. A big a part of going through these sort of "transitioning to adult years" is deciding what it is you're gonna do for the rest of your life. And for a lot of people that's a difficult question to answer when we're still so young. Still trying to find out what it is we want out of life and who we are as people. Thankfully though I found what I feel is my passion so I'll always be grateful I found it early on. And disadvantages, none yet, Ill get back to you on that.
What are you proud of?
Honestly so far, I'm proud of the progress I've made in this business. It's not easy to get into and hopefully it doesn't come off as an arrogant answer but I also don't think its a terribly bad thing to be proud of oneself. I'm doing what I love and succeeding, I feel proud of that.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
There's a few. I've always had a love for Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith. Will in the way he talks about visualizing and believing in oneself. Leo for the work he's done in advocating for global warming issues as well of course for the extreme talents that they are in front of a camera. From a very early age those were my guys. Also Christopher Nolan, the way in which he tells stories captivates me.
Do you have anyone you admire and would love to work with in the future?
Speaking of Christopher Nolan for sure. I would love nothing more than to be a part of one of his stories. And more recently Lin Manuel Miranda, the more I listen to the stories he tells the more in awe I am of the man. And a Latino!!
What were the biggest struggles you had to face to get to where you are?
It'd have to be the sheer odds of it all. Having to overcome the fact that people who grow up where I did don't make it out of that neighborhood often and even less make it all the way to Hollywood to make a career. But quite honestly once I got the agent and got in the room things started happening for me pretty fast so no complaints in that field.
Please tell us the premise for “Runaways” and about your character Alex Wilder.
The story is about these 6 wealthy kids who one night stumble across their parents seemingly sacrificing and murdering someone. All while being set in the marvel universe. So it poses the question of what happens if you find out your parents, are actually super villains. Alex is this "loner by choice" who after losing a friend very near to him sort of closes off. He's incredibly smart and knows his way around a computer forwards and backwards, if he had a super power (and he doesn't) it would be the use of his mind in terms of strategizing and hacking abilities.
How are you and your character alike?
It took me some time but the hair. Alex has this iconic hair that were able to bring to life in me. Didn't start out that way but with a few months of keeping the clippers away we did it.
Has your character evolved since season 1?
He's realized that maybe the group doesn't need him every step of the way to make sure they're sticking together now. He realizes that now everyone is in this just as much as he is.
What can we expect from season 2 of " Marvel's Runaways"?
A lot more action. The stakes go through the roof this season.
How is it being apart of the Marvel Family?
It's amazing. To be a part of something so much bigger than just the show. You're a part of this universe that has made such great stories. On screen and off. And the fans that come with it is the best part!
We also saw you got a chance to meet Stan Lee tell us about that experience?
It was unreal. They had told me the day before that they would have him on set the next day and that he'd be playing our limo driver. I thought they were kidding at first and didn't believe them just laughed it off. Then someone in the cast was like hey you heard Stan Lee is coming tomorrow! And this time I started to believe it and asked around a bit more to the producers and sure enough. He was the sweetest, most charismatic guy in the room. Exactly what you'd hope he'd be. He even improvised a bit with his lines, that was a really cool day.
We also know you was on Teen Wolf as well how was that experience ?
It was lovely. I got to play a villainous type role so I loved it. Everyone on the set was so kind, it really felt like a family they'd created there over the years. I was lucky to have jumped in for a bit and that they so graciously welcomed me.
What goals do you have for 2019?
To get more involved with trying to save this planet. The global warming issue. The first step is always to get informed so the more I learn the more I can help. I'll definitely be trying to get a better grasp so I can hopefully really make a change.
