Tell us about One Dollar on CBS All Access and your character Danielle Furlbee.
One Dollar takes place in a small rust belt town right outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the show highlights things that are currently happening in Pittsburgh today. A town struggling with a major class divide. You have the steel mill workers scraping to get by but then you also have an influx of mega wealth attempting to gentrify the area. But, when a huge multiple murder occurs, through the passing of a one-dollar bill you start to realize everybody has their secrets and maybe the two sides aren’t as separate as you’d think.
Danielle Furlbee seemingly has it all. She’s the daughter of the richest developer in town, high school valedictorian and a tennis champion. However, on the night of the murder, she sees something she shouldn’t have and her curiosity and fascination with what she’s seen takes her on a journey that could put everything at risk.
What makes One Dollar stand out to other drama series that are currently on air?
Most TV shows are based in escape. You turn on the TV to shut out what’s happening in the world around you. But with One Dollar, we’ve created a looking glass to what’s happening in America right now. Financial strain, gentrification, racism, police brutality, white supremacy... just to name a few. This is a show that will make you really think about the state of our country right now.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
At the age of 11, I put together a fundraiser for ovarian cancer, successfully raising over $12,000.
Would you rather live for a week in the past or the future?
I think it’s important to live each and every moment of your life. Be present. Be humble. Live in your truth. Trust that the past has shaped you positively and fate will guide you to the right path in the future.
Are there any current projects you’re working on that you can tease?
On November 12th my new animated seriesButterbean’s Café will premiere on Nickelodeon! I’ve also been working on some original music I hope to release soon.
What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?
I moved to LA on my own at 17 when I bookedK.C. Undercover on the Disney Channel! It was a really scary leap of faith in the moment but LA is home now.
What do you think is the greatest invention of all time?
Video chat. Being Australian-American, my entire family is overseas. Video chatting is an incredible way for us to feel like we aren’t a world apart.
If you were guaranteed the answer to one question, what would you ask?
Will there ever be a cure to Endometriosis? I am the ‘1 in 10.’ With millions of women suffering with this disease just like me, I hope and pray daily that a cure will be found.
What do you hope people take away from the season finale of One Dollar?
I hope that people see that hierarchies are curated. They’re an illusion. No one person is better or worse than another. We’re all capable of being good or bad people, but good should always be cel
