Tell us about your role on AT&T’s “Starter Pack”
I currently star in the AT&T's Hello Lab series “Starter Pack,” and I star as Ayana. Ayana is 25 and a recent recipient of a Masters Degree in Art History. Ayana has been trying to find a job for the last year but is having no luck. She just broke up with her memer boyfriend, who happens to be white, because he sometimes drops insensitive comments. She is staying with her best friend but can’t afford to pay rent because she can’t find a job. She finally gets an interview with a museum and gets the job BUT she has to curate an exhibit of something she hates the most, which are memes.
Do you and Ayana’s life mirror in any way?
When it comes to life after college, we definitely do. Just like Ayana, I too went through a tough time trying to find a job after college. I experienced the same emotions as far as being broke and just trying to figure life out.
What propelled you to start curating skits and sparked interest within comedy?
I started creating skits back in late 2014, early 2015. This was when Vine was alive and thriving! I wanted to create funny sketches that women could relate to. There were tons of men making videos and I wanted to do sketches for women. I had a lot of things going on in my life that I thought would make funny videos. I would go home after work, record videos and post them.
What aspects from college did you take away and use still as an business woman?
Multitasking and adapting to any situation are certainly aspects I took away from college. Additionally, remaining true to myself. I was a full time student working 3 jobs while also trying to sustain a social life. I learned quickly how to multitask. As a business woman, I have so much on my plate that I had learn how to juggle, and I’m glad I learned how to multitask from being in college. I also learned how to adapt to anything life throws at me. Being a business woman consists of constant changes and handling different situations. I know how to adapt to anything life throws at me, good or bad. Lastly, I learned to be true to myself. In life there are times where you may be pressured to do things you don’t want to do so you have to remember the importance of remaining humble and staying true to what you believe in.
What is in the works for you for the latter half of 2018?
Right now I’m focusing on expanding my brand and my acting career. I will continue to produce content on my digital platforms but I also want to expand to television and films. You can definitely expect to see me on the silver and big screens in the latter half of 2018 and beyond.
What are the top three staple items in your wardrobe?
My top three staple items are high waist skinny jeans, a little black dress and a cute strappy shoe.
How do you come up with your skits for your instagram?
I come up with my skits by doing everyday activities. I can walk down the street, see something and instantly think of a funny video.Majority of my videos that I’ve created have either really happened or I know someone its happened to.
What are your top 3 beauty secrets?
My top 3 beauty secrets are face oils, drinking lots of water and no heat on my hair. Essential oils do wonders on my face.I love to put a couple drops of sage and lavender essential oils on my face in the morning. It gives my face a natural glow and keeps it clear and soft. I know you hear this all the time but water is so important. Drinking lots of water keeps my skin youthful and hydrated. Lastly, I try not to put tons of heat on my hair. This keeps my hair thick, long and healthy.
Where do you see yourself in five years from now?
Five years from now I see myself owning a production company and continuously expanding my brand into fashion and fragrances. I enjoy writing, producing and directing and I am really looking forward to creating my own projects that will continue to inspire and motivate others. I also plan on giving back by creating a philanthropic foundation, because that is why we are all here.
